Daughter Diaries #61 | The Open Home

Dear Blossom, we’ve had a lot of fun over the last month as we’ve dipped our toe into studying history. I’m delighted that your grandmother’s love of history that was passed on to me now seems to be passing on to you too and that together we’re able to answer tough questions and explore interesting eras. Keep cheering for the under dog, my sweet, there is always someone out there who needs to be given a voice. Dear Bubbles, or should I call you Wriggly-Bottom? Our Stone Age studies are really coming to life for us at the moment and I too wish we could have seen a real life woolly mammoth. I am however grateful that we don’t have to live in cave, despite how much fun you and Rumbly-Tum seem to think that would be! Plus I think our dietary requirements may have proved to be a bit of an issue during the Stone Age, not so much for Hairy-Legs, he would have loved all the free-range, organic meat. Dearest Daughters, thanks for including me in your games, Freckle-Face loves you.

What would your Cave Man name be?

We tagged a few days in Fort William on to our time in Edinburgh so that we could enjoy the beauty of the Scottish Highlands, a place The Husby

The highlights for me were the road trips to Fort William via Loch Lomond, the quality time spent with our friends, exploring Fort William with our sleeping babe and finally getting up close with the infamous “heelun coo!”

The Scottish Highlands are a wonderful choice for a rejuvenating family holiday.

For our first ever family holiday we headed up to north to Edinburgh to visit with friends and tick off another country from our wish list. Edinburgh very quickly became one of my all time favourite cities and Scotland one of my all time favourite countries.

Highlights for me include our road trips through East Lothian and the discovery of pretty Portobello, strolling through Princes Street gardens, choosing our very own tartan for the Girard clan and Blossom mastering the art of walking!

I definitely want to return to Edinburgh to explore the castle further and would love to climb Arthur’s seat. However, I must admit I’m also tempted to relocate here so maybe one day I’ll just do these things once I’m living in Scotland!
