Dear Daddy 2017 | The Open Home

Dear Daddy Man, I love you sooooooooo much! You really are the man! The man that picks me up when I fall, fills my life with laughter and helps me to be my best. You are my encourager and my hero, I find courage because of you. Thank you for always having time to build the elaborate train tracks, for helping me scale the trunks in the Deep Dark Wood and for dating me with such charm and creativity. Lots of love and cheek bruising smooches from, Blossom xx

Dearest Daddy, now I know we don’t always see eye to eye but that is because you have boring grown up logic and I am in fact a crazy toddler. I happen to enjoy licking my sandy feet, flinging my nappies at inappropriate times and having my book pile just so. Thank you for embracing my little quirks and putting up with my inner diva. I love you more than Candie Gardens and chocolate brownies. Lots of love and Gruffalo snuggles from, Bubbles xx

Dear Husby, you are patient and you are kind. You are generous and you are humble. You are brave and you are strong. You take care of your ladies so very well and I love you for it. All of my heart, Wifey xx

Happy Father’s Day!

Beatrix Potter Party | The Open Home

Over the past year Blossom and I have worked our way through The Complete Tales of Beatrix Potter, so for her 4th birthday celebration I tried to bring the world of Peter Rabbit to life a little. Mr McGregor’s garden was my inspiration and my favourite touch was the carrots in the floral arrangements!

I do love a good theme, but according to Blossom all parties should have 3 key things: Balloons, fresh flowers and of course, chocolate cake!

My chocolate cake wasn’t quite as perfect as a recovering perfectionist would hope, but Blossom told me at bedtime that the chocolate cake was her favourite part of the party. (Cue swooning Mama!)

What was the last party you went to?

30 Things in my 30’s

30 Things in my 30's | The Open Home

Last week I turned the big 3-0 and to embrace this next decade I decided to make a list of 30 things I would like to do in my 30’s. Some are big life goals, the things I dream about and others are simply fun or grown up things I’ve been meaning to get round to. In no particular order…

  1. Get a good camera and learn how to use it!
  2. Go on a flower arranging course
  3. Learn to embroider
  4. Learn to play the ukulele with my girls
  5. Learn to speak another language (probably German, Latvian or BSL)
  6. Make a patchwork quilt for each of my girls
  7. Get a pet (maybe a rabbit?)
  8. Try kayaking
  9. Start a veggie patch
  10. Shear a sheep
  11. Climb a mountain
  12. Make a Will
  13. Become a blood donor
  14. Sign up to be an organ donor
  15. Get fit! (aka. get back to pre-pregnancy weight)
  16. Donate my wedding dress to charity
  17. Walk the entire cliffs of Guernsey (in stages)
  18. Read all of Agatha Christie’s Poirot
  19. Read the Anne of Green Gables series
  20. Read the Little House on the Prairie series
  21. Go to 10 new (to me) restaurants on the island
  22. Go to a West End Show in London
  23. Go on a weekend away with some gal pals
  24. Take my girls to the Lake District
  25. Visit Keighley in Yorkshire (where my Gran was evacuated to during WW2)
  26. Visit friends in Australia & New Zealand
  27. Visit an Asian country

We ended the year with a little bear themed tea party in honour of our sweet Bubbles turning two. She adores all bears but our inspiration was taken from her beloved brown snuggly Bear that she totes around the house with her.

I kept things simple, making use of lots of home decor items I already had on hand, bought some winter foliage, gathered a few pinecones and made some of my favourite home made goodies; snickerdoodles and chocolate fudge cake. The M&D doughnuts were also a big hit!

As always I was pretty rubbish at taking photos during the party, too busy chatting, eating cake and helping Bubbles open her birthday gifts, but it was a fun time with family and as always the girls loved playing with their cousins.

What was the last party you went to?

{Dear Husby} 10 Years and Counting…

Dear Husby 10 Years & Counting | The Open Home

Dear Husby,

Well it has been ten years, Husby. TEN YEARS!

Ten years since I walked down the aisle to you. Ten years since we became Mr & Mrs. Ten years since we officially became a family, just you and me.

And ten years on you remain the most important person in my life. The person who knows my hopes and dreams, my fears and failures and continues to love me through it all.

Thank you for honouring those vows, for sticking with me through the better and worse of marriage and for loving me so well. You really are one of a kind and I really do cherish you.

All of my heart…

… these ten years and still counting,

Wifey xx

Happy 10th Wedding Anniversary!

{Dear Daddy}

Dear Daddy 2016 | The Open Home

Dear Daddy Man, you really know how to woo a girl! I’m so lucky that I get to date a guy that takes me plane spotting at the airport and lets me eat the chocolate cake all to myself. Thanks for being the best example of what a boy should be; kind, generous, fun and romantic, you set the bar high and love me so well. Lots of love, bear hugs and crazy smiles from you number one girl, Blossom xx

Dearest Daddy, when I grow up I want to be an adventurer, a dare devil, the female equivalent of Bear Grylls! That’s why I like to crawl backwards through bushes, poke worms and swing from bathroom sinks. Thanks for teaching me to brave, for catching me when I fall and laughing with me when I lick my stinky feet – not many people find that cute, but you just get me. Lots of love, flying kisses and belly laughs, from your cheeky mini me, Bubbles xx

Dear Husby, another year and another daddy’s day. How lucky we are to have you in our lives to celebrate. I know you prefer words over gifts so let me say it loud and clear. I love you. I appreciate you. I believe in you. All of my heart, Wifey xx

Happy Father’s Day!
